FAENZA
Competition “Urban tree”
SECOND PRIZE
The project aim to avoid as much as possible solutions that involve the use of newly and unsustainable materials. Solutions that are certainly effective but which on this scale would mean a massive use of non-vegetable material, leaving only the aesthetic function of covering to climbing plants.
The first step is to wrap the tower with natural, recycled material available on the neighboring coasts. Beached wooden branches, which the sea constantly returns to us with its waves, as a support for the new climbing vegetation.
A second step is to involve citizens in the work of collecting and replacing the branches over time, creating an element strongly rooted in the city of Faenza, not only from as aesthetic but also from a social aggregation point of view.
A third pillar of our project is the creation of a new habitat.
Big is the tower and big is the opportunity to create benefits on multiple fronts and for subjects that are not exclusively us, the human beings.
Reaching a height of approximately 40 metres, our branch plot will therefore be a suitable place for the nesting of bird species that migrate or stay in the area. Avian species that usually seek shelter by creating their nests on artificial elements, such as electricity poles or pylons. A new small ecosystem and refuge.
