WUDING GARDEN
The project consist in the renovation of a historic villa from the 30’s, located in the French Concession area, heart of the old colonial city of Shanghai.
The villa is used as a private club and restaurant, and the goal of the project was to design a garden as a natural extension of the interior space. An outdoor living room for private events, an elegant and quiet lounge space with privacy.
The shape of the contemporary garden aim to create a contrast with the historical lines of the building, linking the actual function of the villa to the hystorical appeal of the site.
The area covers 400 sqm, and is mostly occupied by a central blade of water from which emerge a group of historic tall trees, reflecting themselves on the water surface and creating a dynamic game of shadows during the day.
The sunshine that filters from the foliage, by reflecting on the water mirror, amplify the brightness of the space, and give a sense of larger open space, were tranquillity and calm are the main feature.
